Prom is on the horizon, as you well know if you’re a high schooler! The trends that are appearing in many of the spring styles for clothing are also showing up in this year’s crop of prom dresses, as well. If you want to read more in-depth about prom styles, this article had a lot of info, but we have rounded up our very favorite trends:
Lace: Always one of my personal favorites, lace is everywhere this season. I love this pretty dress from PromGirl, with it’s raised embroidery that spans the waistline as well. It’s a beautiful, modest and classy option that will flatter many body types. This lace option is also beautiful, and is shorter and more affordable (Looking for very modest options? Sherri Hill makes a modesty-friendly collection with Sadie Robertson here).
Two Piece Dresses: Just like crop tops are making a vintage inspired comeback, the crop top prom dress is also very popular this year. If you’re ready to try a more edgy look, we like this one from Simply Dresses, with a classic black and white ballgown feel. Designer Sherri Hill also debuted this eclectic two-piece gown, with a floral skirt and long-sleeve lacy top for the cutting edge fashionista!
Florals: This beautiful black and floral gown has a high neck (right) and ballgown skirt. The pretty, large florals are perfectly on trend, and would be especially fun with bright pink peep toe pumps! It has a defined waist and longer length, so taller gals will most likely find it a great fit (though more petite seniors could easily have something hemmed up).
Embroidery: With a non-traditional feel, and luxurious finished look, embroidered gowns are having a moment as well. Did you know Macy’s has a prom section? They have a few more affordable options, like this embroidered bustier dress that is still slightly pricy, but not in the ballpark of the Sherri Hill or designer price tags. This shorter, baroque embroidered dress clocks in at just under $40, and is perfect and pretty for the girl on a tight budget (Forever 21 actually has quite a few lovely formal gowns for under $50!)
