When faced with the prospect of senior photos, some seniors immediately balk. “I’m not a model”, they say with dismay, “How will you make me look amazing?!” They forget that the gorgeous seniors they see on my website are JUST LIKE THEM…real people with real nerves and real pimples and real awkward poses! That’s why hiring a pro photographer is a must! A great photographer can bring out the model in anyone, and capture you as you are..beautiful and confident. Here’s a few tips on how to make your shoot model-worthy!
-Move your arms and hands! Raise them over your head, put your hands on your hips, or lean them against a wall or fence. Arms stiff by your side not only look awkward, they can make even slim arms appear “fuller”, especially if you’re wearing sleeveless or cap-sleeved garments.
-Balance your weight when standing. When in a standing pose, try balancing your weight on one leg or the other. That creates a more natural look, and appears less stiff. It is also how people normally stand in casual conversation, so it will appear less posed.
-Look on Pinterest: If you feel nervous about your poses, search on Pinterest for other senior photos where you love the look. It sounds dorky, but trying the poses in front of a full length mirror can help you practice.
-Try on your whole outfit(s). Any outfits you have chosen should be tried on in a full length mirror with the shoes you will be wearing for the shoot. This helps because you can see if a hemline or undergarment is sticking out or looks out of place. Just a simple tuck of a bra-strap or shifting a waistband can create a much more polished look.
